Preview and Plan:

  • Read and understand the proposed process plan for manufacturing the drill gauge.
  • Research and understand the job plans, drawings etc.
  • Investigate basic manufacturing process
  • Conduct research into the safe use of bench and pedestal grinders.

Do:

  • At an introductory level, research and compare manual and computerised manufacturing processes in terms of accuracy, productivity and complexity.
  • Simulate a manufacturing process through the production of a drill grinding gauge.
  • Conduct a basic operator level CNC machining process.
  • Research drill bit terms and features for use when regrinding
  • Resharpen a worn drill using the grinding gauge, using bench and/or pedestal grinders.

Review:

  • Record evidence of the learning processes in this project.
  • Review the finished product for quality.
  • Reflect on how I worked with others

Day 1 review

20/03/17

Today we started to take a look at all the safety videos for being in the machine room, we also watched a few videos on how to sharpen a drill bit. Once we had completed all the safety instructions outside we headed into the machine room to start on our drill gauge. we didn't complete and awful lot but we had learnt oh to use the "wobbly" to find of the lengthen and height of our metal plate. Was a good day the only let down being there is only so many machines so it is hard to get heaps done.

Day 2 review

21/03/17

Today we started on drilling the pilot holes it the drill gauge and removing the top layer off the plate to create a fine surface, this was a lengthy process once again as everyone had to wait for each other to complete theirs. we used the "wobbly" once again to find the lengths of the sides so we could find the middle and go from there. We had been given measurement to go off as it had a template it had to sit in when it went into the cnc machine for cutting. I was happy with how well the tutors had shown us how to use the machines.  20170321_145135.jpg

Day 3 review

23/03/17

Today i completed my drill gauge and successfully sharpened my drill bit, I started off with drilling out all the different sizes for the drill gauge, starts of f with the smallest to largest and then moved onto sharpening my drill bit, i was happy with how well I did it and I thought it was going to be way harder. after i did that i moved onto  putting my plate into the cnc machine so it could cut it out. After it came out i proceeded to filing back the sharp edges and then punched in the numbers and degrees of the angles. it was a very productive day as everyone was a lot more confident with the machines.

Day 4 review

No need for me to come in as i had already completed the work set
